Acupuncture Risks with Regular Medical Treatment?
Many people today are looking to alternative treatments for their health and have discovered acupuncture. With a 5,000 year history originating from China, it has also spread throughout most parts of Asian. Acupuncture basically aims to bring the body back to balance by influencing the energy within the body, namely the balance between cold and hot which ultimately regulates the body’s many functions and ability to maintain health.
It is a known fact that regular medicine tend to treat the symptoms and not the cause. Because of that, many of us have experienced one problem treated while not cured, but other problems arising because of it. A lot of times that’s because when one symptom is being treated or suppressed, it is actually interfering with our body’s ability to take care of itself in another way. Acupuncture on the other hand does not do this. It is totally natural and is meant to naturally get your body back to a good balance. Because of this fundamental difference of approach, many are concerned if acupuncture and regular medicine mix at all, and if so, are there risks involved?
Obviously, there are no easy answers to that as every person is different and every condition is different. Having said that, what you can do is simply start by discussing your intention to try acupuncture with you doctor, and also tell your acupuncturist of any medical conditions you may have and any medications you may be on before you start. This will at least let both the acupuncturist as well as the doctor know what you are up to, and if there are any concerns they can bring it up to you. Typically, at your first visit to your acupuncturist, you will be given a series of questions which will help identify any obvious problems you may have with undergoing this type of treatment.
In most cases, acupuncture will work fine whether you are under other form of medication or not. However, there may be other obvious conditions such as pregnancy where you may want to be cautious and double check with both your doctor and the acupuncturist just to be in the clear. All in all, don’t be afraid to have an initial consultation with a trusted and referred acupuncturist and then make up your mind about how to proceed.
